Dealing With Heights in Your Bathroom

You’ve probably joked about being too tall for a bathroom or other space in your home, or maybe everything is too tall for you. That being said, how can you make sure that you’re going to be able to set up your bathroom in a way that works and that isn’t going to be “too much” for your family when you’re using it on a regular basis?

There are no hard-and-fast rules about how high to hang towel bars and robe hooks. Designers use a number of dimensions as a starting point. For example, the toilet paper is usually 6 inches from the toilet. The mirror is about 66″ up on the wall. About 4 feet from the floor should be your towel racks. These usually work well, but if family members are exceptionally short or tall, you may want to move a few things around.

Decide where to put things early on so that you can add extra blocking where needed before finishing the walls. If you can, mark potential spots with painter’s tape first, then adjust for comfort. Talk to your plumber if there is anything that you need to know about your plumbing in relation to these things.
